Jack arrived at BTTR on 8/24/08 with Tucker. GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO SUE GREEN AND BONNIE SKOPAL FOR TRANSPORTING THE DOGS TO BTTR!! Jack is UTD on shots and was neutered 8/25/08. He's about 2 years old. We don't know much about Jack's history, because he was a stray. But Jack wears his hard luck story on his sleeve, so to speak. Jack is missing part of his tail, and has only one eye. The missing eye has been sutured shut. We have no way of knowing if the eye and tail were hurt in the same or separate events.  Jack is very friendly to people, and did not "mark" inside a volunteer's house when allowed out of his crate (though this was for a short period of time). He got along well with the other dogs at the foster home. We do not know if he is actually housetrained. He will be going to a foster home shortly, because poor Jack is also heartworm positive, and must go through treatment for that as well.

Heartworm is VERY TREATABLE. In fact, Jack can be adopted during treatment, the cost of which will be paid by BTTR. Essentially, he needs to be kept quiet and calm during treatment. He can enjoy normal indoor living, but should be walked on a leash, and for minimal distances. This treatment will take 2-3 months.

September 18, 2008 Update:  Jack is doing well with treatment and must be feeling better because he is trying to be more active now than just before he began treatment. He's kind of bummed that we stop him when he wants to wrestle or run. Jack's mission in life is to gather up any socks left on the floor and to take them to whatever dog bed he is claiming at that particular time. He waits for you to come to get your socks back and wants to have a tug-of-war with you.  Jack has a good sense of humor, because he didn't bite the photographer when she dressed him up in this STUPID pirate costume.

October 7th Update: Jack came home from the vet's today. He spent the last two days at the SPCA receiving his 2nd heartworm treatment. It was pretty hard on ole Jack, and he has been sleeping ever since he got back to his foster home tonight. He will receive his third and final treatment around November 5th.
